This is a very good calculus book. It actually devotes time to understanding the underlying principles of calculus and the reason for the different operations and why you would use them in the real world. I wish I had had this book when taking calc in college.The only problem with this book is that the raster graphics are too small on the Kindle Paper white. It's not worth a start because I just switched over to using a tablet and problem solved. If you don't have a larger screen device then you'll want to use the cloud reader. If the author had used vector graphics instead then this wouldn't have been a problem.

This guy is a genius! Not only does the way he explains the topic make it easy to understand, he makes it fun to! He instinctively knows, just how far to break down each element of the subject to allow you to steadily build your understanding without realising the foundations he's layering bit by bit. Then sure enough before you know it, all becomes clear. I think he's an engineer, I suggest he becomes a math teacher instead! Great Stuff!
After growing frustrated working with several textbooks, online tutors, and some software aimed at teaching calculus, I ran into this very easy to understand material. The author is blessed with the ability to explain the material in simple terms while going straight and to the point. I can say now with confidence that I will be able to learn and help my children learn a bit of calculus. I honestly felt that it would take forever for me to achieve success, however, Prof. Faraz Hussain, the author of Understanding Calculus has made it possible to attain today what I thought impossible 24 hour ago.
It has been 10 years since I took Calculus I. Now I am going back to school to get a second degree and needed a refresher since I am starting with Calculus II. Boy was this book a help.
The author does a great job of explaining the principles and helping you understand why you are doing what you are doing instead of just memorizing formulas, which, by the way, is what everyone told me to do for this class. This book has given me the confidence and knowledge set to be an active participant in Calculus, not just a temporary storage device for formulas (because we all know, things memorized for a class only last till after the final).
The book is a verbose "philosophy" of mathematics, science, and engineering (actually quite interesting) with a high-school level introduction to calculus. Unlike the "search inside" sample, the formulas are small and faint.

After reading through several chapters of "Understanding Calculus" and downloading this book as PDF, I want to share my short review with you.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Germany's university of applied sciences, now I am pursuing a Master's degree. I have seen
a lot of calculus books and manuscripts. Some were bad, some even worse but there were also many very helpful sources such as "Understanding Calculus" for example.
I could apply "things" which I learned in calculus such as derivatives or integrals or series... But there always were some or even many things I didn't fully understand.
I don't want to say that now I understand all "things" in calculus, NO, but I am on my way there, and "Understanding Calculus" helped me to develop intuition and gave me much insight to this
subject. I can only encourage you to take your time and read through it!

Trying to understand it again (20 years out of the last Calculas class) to help my daughter in her class. The book is good but gets long on why we should understand calculas.
Book was fairly well written for someone that already has a strong understanding of calculus. Some beginners may find the book a little, "above them" otherwise a very informative book. I would recommend.
